A FOURTH-year student at Mulungushi University has been sentenced to two months simple imprisonment for trafficking in 32.1 grammes of marijuana.

Kabwe principal resident magistrate John Mbuzi yesterday sentenced Missael Mwanza, 23, when his case came for presentation of facts.
A Drug Enforcement Commission prosecutor, Sikute Muliokela, said Mwanza was arrested on June 4, this year after he was found in possession of loose cannabis weighing 32.1 grammes without lawful authority.
The suspected drug was tested at the Food and Drugs Control Laboratory in Lusaka and it was proved to be marijuana.
In his mitigation, Mwanza asked the court to exercise leniency on him saying he was remorseful for his actions.
He said he is a fourth-year student due to write examinations in August this year.
Magistrate Mbuzi told Mwanza that he had considered his mitigation and was sentencing him to two months simple imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the State has withdrawn a case against Ndambo Chinda, 22, who is also a student at Mulungushi University and was accused of being in possession of 43 muffins containing cannabis.
Magistrate Maxwell Shiwanga allowed the withdrawal of the case.
