A 17-YEAR-OLD girl of Kitwe has told the magistrate’s court that a renowned notorious man in Chimwemwe allegedly attacked and snatched her money after she refused to give him her phone number.
This is in a case where Michael Mbai, 27, of house number 4442, Chimwemwe, Kitwe, is facing one count of theft before magistrate Lenard Tembo’s court.
The offence is contrary to Section 276 of the Penal Code, chapter 87, of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that, Mbai on December 29, 2014, in Kitwe, did steal K500 cash from Sally Nachula.
Nachula told the court that on the material day, around 16:00 hours, she was coming from town when she met the accused person in the company of his friend.
“I dropped at Kamunga, and I started going along Nachibungulubwe Road when I met Mbai with his friend. He asked for my phone number but I told him I did not have any. Then he started blocking my way,” she said.
The court heard that Mbai then got hold of the complainant by force and pushed his hands into her bra and got her K500.
Nachula further testified that thereafter, the accused got a bottle from his friend, which he broke and threw it in her face, but she ducked and managed to escape.
She said onlookers could not help her because they were scared of Mbai, who allegedly has a reputation for notoriety in the township.
The matter was later reported to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the subject offence.
