Police in Isoka District of Muchinga Province this morning intercepted another truck load of Mukula tree logs.
This is the second truck carrying Mukula logs illegally harvested in the last six days that has been intercepted by Police in Isoka district.
Isoka District. Commissioner Joe Siwila who accompanied the police officers on patrol last night has confirmed the development to ZANIS in Isoka today.
Major Siwila said a Zambian Truck registration number ALL 7765 was found transporting Mukula logs at Kazilamabwe Village near Mafinga hills.
The District Commissioner said police will continue fighting the illegal trading in Mukula tree logs.
He explained that two people were on board the truck but the driver managed to jump out of the moving truck leaving his assistant who is detained at Isoka police station helping with investigations.
The District Commissioner has since appealed to the Government to empower Isoka police station with reliable mode of transport that would assist in curbing the vice.
He said police have no vehicle that can be used to track the illegal Mukula traders because the harvest is done in hilly and sandy places that other vehicles fall to reach.
Police have since identified the fugitive driver as 33 year old Gillard Siame of Nakonde District who was driving a Scania truck registration number ALL 7765 carrying an inscription Of Sailas G.General dealers of Kabwata Estate of Lusaka .
Police in Isoka have in the last six days intercepted two trucks loaded with Mukula logs.
