POLICE in Mporokoso have arrested a 25-year-old man while his accomplice is at large for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old man.
Northern Province deputy commissioner of police Alfred Nawa, who confirmed the matter, said Philemon Chisha was killed when he tried to stop a fight between the two suspects and another man.
This happened on Wednesday around 20:15 hours at Njeke village in Chief Mumporokoso.
Mr Nawa identified the suspects as Kelvin Kapalakasha, who is in custody, and Sydney Pendampundu, who has fled.
He said the deceased was hit with a pan brick on the head as he tried to stop the two suspects from beating his cousin only identified as Konkola.
“What transpired on that night was that the suspects were involved in a brawl with the deceased’s cousin, hence the deceased wanted to make peace among them. The two suspects then turned on the deceased and started beating him,” Mr Nawa said.
He said Mr Chisha sustained head injuries and was admitted to Mukukakaoma clinic, where he later died.
