PATRIOTIC Front youth chairman for Lusaka Province Kennedy Kamba says the ruling party’s growth and strength is “unstoppable”.
Mr Kamba said the many new members the party is receiving, especially from the United Party for National Development (UPND) and MMD, is a clear sign that it has become more attractive and responsive to people’s needs.
Mr Kamba’s comments come in the wake of UPND vice-president Richard Kapita and former national secretary of the National Restoration Party (NAREP) Javan Kamanga joining the PF.
“There are many examples I can give you of UPND members that are joining us. Last week the UPND Lusaka district youth chairman Nathan Phiri joined us. Any good politician will read the times that it is now time for the PF. It is our time,” Mr Kamba said.
He said President Lungu has demonstrated love, care and humility in his style of leadership, hence attracting new members to the party.
“Those of us who know President Lungu will tell you that the man is very humble and is full of love. President Lungu’s desire is to see this country develop and people realise their potential,” he said.
Mr Kamba said the PF has now reached a “point of no return” because of President Lungu’s love for the people.
“The PF is now unstoppable. You are yet to see more as we approach 2016. All these projects this Government is undertaking will be completed. Just take a walk to the UTH, Burma or Chilimbulu roads. There is development everywhere,” he said.
Meanwhile, former NAREP national secretary Kamanga and 173 other members of the opposition party yesterday joined the PF.
Reverend Kamanga said he decided to join the PF because of President Lungu’s humility, genuineness and commitment to develop the country.
“The PF government has shown magnanimity in bringing on board the national agenda of poverty alleviation, job creation and national development,” Rev Kamanga said.
Rev Kamanga said some of the people in the opposition are mere armchair critics who want to find faults in everything that the Government is doing.
“I and my colleagues present here have seen the first 100 days of President Lungu which have proven that we have the right man in State House.
“We are here to put our weight behind President Lungu and the PF and to make sure they form Government in 2016. We want to see their national agenda go beyond 2016,” he said.
But NAREP president Elias Chipimo described Rev Kamanga’s defection as an act of desperation.
“This is the nature of politics, but it is sad that a man of God can be this desperate. In fact, we have served him with a disciplinary letter for enticing our members to follow him,” Mr Chipimo said.
UPND Lusaka district youth chairman Nathan Phiri who, also joined the PF said his former party was sinking.
