Child abuse, particularly that of a sexual nature, is on the rise with the news being filled with stories of babies being raped by their fathers or unknown assailants almost everyday.
This is so alarming that one wonders what it is that men find attractive in babies.
Recently, police in Mansa, Luapula Province, arrested a 26-year- old man for defiling his five months old baby girl. It is alleged that the baby was sexually abused from the time she was born.
Again a 40 year old man of Kampasa village in Mpika district of Muchinga Province was arrested for defiling his three year old daughter.
These stories keep going through my head. I try to think what the poor child endured and how scared she must have been! One wonders that which is really driving men to destroy their own children’s lives? It only takes a few seconds to destroy a child’s sense of safety in the world.
The level of moral decay in society, especially where sexual matters are concerned, is frightening considering that babies are no longer safe with their own fathers. This is despite children depending on parents fro protection from the evils of the world.
What pains the most is that some of the victims die from injuries inflicted on them, while others contract HIV.
Although rises in poverty, violent crime and unemployment are said to be contributing to the escalation in child abuse, the most significant and worrying factor is the widespread myth that having sex with children provides a cure for Aids. The truth is sleeping with a child will never cure anyone from Aids. Once one is aware of his/her HIV status, it is best to take responsibility and get treatment.
A social worker who help child victims, said: “Child abusers are often relatives of their victims – even their fathers and providers. For women, making a complaint is a hard choice because they end up losing their husbands, the breadwinners and the roof over their heads.”
A local church pastor also said, “The word of God is clear that children are a gift from God, and the abuse of children is not acceptable not only by society but by God also,” he said. “Everyone should be able to respect both societal and God’s values; if a child is the age of my own child, that child automatically qualifies to be my own and that only should be treasured.”
If only men could understand that the babies they defile remain damaged for life, they would stop this madness. The moment a child is defiled, trauma is stamped on the brain, so somewhere it is imprinted. In some cases the child will need treatment for life.
Men who defile children deserve to be castrated and locked in jail for life.I think men are severely damaged human beings, they feel no empathy or remorse. I won’t be surprised that the majority of rapists will probably not read or pay attention to this article. I say this because the majority of them are repeat offenders who just do not care.
I however, believe good men don’t let women get raped so lets stand up as a society and fight all forms of women abuse.
