A 21-YEAR-OLD man of Kitwe has been fined K200 or, in default, will spend three months in prison for whipping a 38-year-old woman with a chain on her buttocks.
Appearing before magistrate Lenard Tembo was Kelvin Mwewa, who assaulted Angela Chanda, a bartender, while he was trying to force his wife out of the bar with a whip.
Mwewa pleaded guilty to one count of assault.
Particulars are that Mwewa, on April 10 this year, in Kitwe, assaulted Chanda thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.
Ms Chanda, who is a bartender, was working at the bar when the convict came chasing after his wife.
The court heard that when he entered the bar, Mwewa started whipping his wife with the chain, and in the process, he also whacked Ms Chanda with the same chain on her buttocks.
The complainant later reported the matter to police and Mwewa was charged and arrested for the subject offence.
“I have taken note that you are a first offender who readily admitted the charge, thereby not wasting the court’s time. I have also looked at the medical report; the complainant sustained a painful back and she did not sustain anything serious resulting from the beating,” he observed.
“You shall pay the complainant K200 and in default three months in prison with hard labour.”
