WHILE some men cherish their wives, others take pleasure in talking ill of them, like a Lusaka man who described his wife as a liar in the Chawama Local Court.
Benjamin Musonda, 37, told senior court magistrate Gaston Kalala that his wife is a liar and has a loose mouth.
This was in a case in which Josephine Mwaba, 25, of John Howard sued Benjamin Musonda, 37, of the same township for divorce. They got married in 2002 and have five children.
Musonda said he was forced to marry another woman four years ago because he could no longer contend with his wife’s behaviour.
He tried to be patient by waiting to see if his wife will change her irrational behaviour but to no avail.
However, Musonda said he wanted to be in a polygamous marriage though he did not show any affection towards his wife.
And Mwaba narrated how unhappy she has been since the time she got married to Musonda.
“My husband has several extra marital affairs. He was at one time caught having sex with another man’s wife in Kawambwa. He was even fined for it,” she said.
Mwaba also said her husband in 2011 sent her packing when he went to look for greener pastures in Lusaka from Kawambwa.
But she got a shock of her life when her husband told her not to dare calling or join him a week after he left saying he had married another woman.
“He told me to get married if I so wish and he warned me not to dare follow him wherever he was,” Mwaba said.
She said her efforts to reconcile with Musonda failed as he also rejected her in the presence of his relatives.
Mwaba said her husband has since deserted her and their five children for another woman.
“He vowed never to step a foot in my house and we have not been together since he left,” she said.
In her submission, Mwaba said she wanted her marriage dissolved.
Passing judgement, the court blamed Musonda for their marriage break down because of his unfaithfulness.
Musonda was ordered to compensate Mwaba with K9, 000 and pay child support of K400 each month.
