The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Solwezi has arrested a Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) employee for alleged theft of over 6,000 litres of fuel worth over K46, 000.
Bright Mulilo, 32, an Assistant Photographer, has been arrested and charged with five counts of theft by public servant contrary to Section 277 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono confirmed this development in a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka May 7th.
Mr. Moono said Mr. Mulilo is alleged to have stolen 6,145.26 litres of fuel worth K46, 499 from ZANIS.
Details are that on dates unknown but between 1st June and 30th June 2012, Mulilo, a public service officer stole 1,057.36 litres of diesel worth K8, 000, the property of ZANIS which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.
In the second count, is said to have on dates unknown but between 1st June and 30th June 2012, stolen 1,189.50 litres of diesel worth K8, 999, the property of ZANIS and in the third count, he is alleged to have during the same period, stolen 1,255 litres of diesel worth K9, 500.
Mr. Moono further said in the fourth count, Mulilo allegedly stole 1,321.70 litres of diesel worth K10, 000 while in the last count, he is alleged to have stolen 1,321.70 litres of diesel worth K10, 000 respectively.
Mulilo has since been released on bond.
Meanwhile, Mr. Moono has said the ACC has arrested a Lusaka farmer and a Data Analyst for alleged corrupt practices.
Mvelani Banda, 42 of Kabanana Site and Service and Acklas Phiri, 32 of Matero north, have been jointly charged with one count of corrupt practices with a public officer contrary to section 19 (2) as read with section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
Details are that on unknown dates but between 1st April 2015 and 30th April 2015 in Lusaka, the duo did offer and actually gave K20, 000 to a named ZESCO employee as an inducement for him to facilitate the release of Charles Mwanza.
He said Mwanza, who is in police custody for allegedly tempering with a ZESCO transformer, was charged with being in possession of transformer oil, a matter that concerns ZESCO, a public body.
Mr. Moono said the duo is currently on bond and would appear in court on 13th May 2015.
