MONAGHAN NATIVE Christina McMahon is Ireland’s latest world boxing champ.

The pro fighter claimed the Interim WBC World female bantamweight title with a win in Zambia over Zambia’s Catherine Phiri.

 

The Monaghan native defeated Zambia’s Catherine Phiri in Lusaka to extend her professional record to 7-0 and claim that coveted golden strap. She out-boxed her opponent to earn a close-fought decision victory.

Irish boxer Christina McMahon has become Ireland’s latest world champion by winning the interim WBC Gold bantamweight title.

Twitter was awash with praise for the Irish pugilist on her outstanding achievement.

  2. Catherine that was a good fight. Never give up nor get discouraged. You are a few steps from being the world’s greatest female boxer. Sponsors continue with the good work. Zambia need such people like Catherine. Let other sports in Zambia emulate this lady.

  6. She hs a bright future en infact in terms of landing of punches she ws better than mcMahon despite of her age en lack of experience.Besides,sh confessed it herself that catherine is a gud fighter and that sh is the toughest opponent she hs ever faced in her 20yrs of fighting.
