The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) says it will forever remain indebted to late President Michael Sata for recognising artists as key partners in national development.

ZAM president Njoya Tembo said the creation of the Ministry of Tourism and Arts by the late President has helped to enhance the artists’ abilities and brought recognition to the industry.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS over the weekend, Tembo said the new ministry has also helped to empower musicians to contribute to national development through their talent.

And Tembo has called on government and other cooperating partners to continue helping in consolidating the music industry to be an alternative source of employment for unemployed youths in the country.

Tembo further appealed to government and all well-meaning Zambians to help scale up the fight against piracy which he said robs musicians in the country full rewards of their sweat.

He said despite the introduction of the hologram aimed at protecting the artist’s visual- audio works, more needs to be done to address the increased pirated music being sold in the streets of Lusaka, Kapiri Mposhi, Kitwe and many other places.

Tembo stated that vendors are ready to sell legitimate music and that the law on the hologram should be enforced in fighting piracy.
