Two people died on the spot while 27 others sustained serious injuries when a Mansa-bound bus they were traveling in veered off the road and overturned.
The accident occurred in the early hours of today around 00:30hrs at Chitundwa village in Samfya district about 85 km South of Musaila along Serenje road.
In a statement, Luapula Province Commissioner, Hudson Namachila, said the Scania IRIZER bus registration number ABP 5560 driven by Enock Ngoma aged 48 years of Mtendere Township in Lusaka overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Mr Namachila said among the deceased are Richard Katebe, 42, of Elayabu village, Nchelenge district and an unidentified woman who also died on the spot.
He said 24 victims, including the driver, were admitted at Samfya District Hospital while three others at Mansa General Hospital.
The Police Commissioner said the bodies of the deceased are lying at Mansa General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while investigations are still going on to determine the cause of the accident.-Zanis
