The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has expressed sadness over the death of its former commissioner Lavu Mulimba.
HRC Director Florence Chibwesha said the late Mr. Mulimba provided guidance and made great contribution to the work of the commission in its formative stage.
In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms. Chibwesha described the late Mr. Mulimba as a true champion of human rights and a great inspiration to the commission.
Ms. Chibwesha said Mr. Mulimba courageously led the commission in fulfilling its mandate of promoting and protecting fundamental freedoms and human rights of all people in the country.
She said the immense contribution of the late Mr. Mulimba to HRC’s development and provision of human rights services will forever be remembered.
The late Mr. Mulimba was one of the first distinguished Zambians appointed to serve as commissioners for the Human Rights Commission in April 1997 when the institution was established.
