Six die in Mkushi road accident horror

FOUR people died on the spot while two others are admitted to hospital in Mkushi after the minibus they were travelling in had a tyre burst and overturned on Tuesday.
The accident occurred on the Great North Road near Chengelo turnoff.
Mkushi District Commissioner Luke Mwamba confirmed the incident that happened on Tuesday around 16:00 hours.
Mr Mwamba said the minibus whose destination was Nakonde rolled aftera tyre burst leaving four people dead on the spot and two seriously injured.
“I can confirm that there was an accident in Mkushi District on Tuesday afternoon involving a minibus that overturned several times leaving four dead and two seriously injured’’, Mr Mwamba said.
Mr Mwamba said the two other passengers were rushed to Mkushi District Hospital where they later died yesterday.

He identified one of the deceased as Rosemary Sakala and has since called on members of the public who had their relatives traveling on that route and are missing to go to Mkushi District Hospital mortuary to identify the bodies.
The driver and the conductor of the minibus are on the run.
Meanwhile, police in Mkushi have apprehended a 35 –year-old man of Kabwe for running over another man who was sleeping under the vehicle.
Central Province Police Chief Lillian Kamukoshi disclosed that on Tuesday, Edgar Mukuka who was driving a motor vehicle registration number GRZ 403 CD run over Loader Muchinda, 47, who was sleeping under the vehicle.
Ms Kamukoshi said Mr Muchinda died on the spot and his body is lying in the Mkushi District Hospital mortuary while Mr Mukuka is detained at Mkushi Police Station.

  1. With this carnage it justifies traffic check points if only officers are serious enough to check on defects such as state of tires and pressure. May the lives lost and families find solace in the Lord.

  2. Why are drivers of both accidents fleeing or is this the norm?? They also seem to be surviving in all these accidents, and it being called an accident, why flee???
