The Football International Federation Association (FIFA) Disciplinary Committee has expelled Zimbabwe from the preliminary competition of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The expulsion comes as a result of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA’s) failure to settle the outstanding debt owed to coach José Claudinei Georgin.
ZIFA failed to settle the debt within the granted period following the decision passed on August 15, 2012 by the single judge of FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee which is final and binding.
This failure to respect the decision by ZIFA in application of Article 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code led to the opening of disciplinary proceedings against ZIFA upon the request of the coach.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee which sat today in Zurich- Switzerland has since notified the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) of their expulsion.
This according to the FIFA website monitored by ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Championship will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15.
