LUSAKA, Zambia (AP) — Zambian officials say the president has been diagnosed with malariaafter he collapsed while speaking at a public ceremony.

The president’s assistant, Amos Chanda, said Sunday in a statement that doctors tested President Edgar Lungu for malaria after he showed fatigue.

Chanda said Lungu was delivering a speech to commemorate International Women’s Day at Heroes Stadium in the capital Lusaka, when he felt ill.

Chanda said Lungu was rushed to the Maina Soko Military hospital in Lusaka, where he is being treated for malaria and fatigue.

In the statement, Lungu told his supporters that he was feeling much better after treatment.

Lungu became president in January this year, succeeding Michael Sata who died last year after a long illness.
