Opposition political parties have been advised to play their role of providing checks and balances more responsibly and avoid issuing alarming statements.
Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) President Fredrick Mutesa says it is incumbent upon all opposition political parties to be responsible in their utterances in order to avoid crying foul when President Edgar Lungu reacts.
Dr Mutesa has also advised President Lungu to focus on doing what he was elected to do.
In an interview with Qfm News, Dr. Mutesa says President Lungu should realize that many will try to distract him as it is in their interest to show that he is not leaving up to his promises.
Dr. Mutesa says the President should not allow himself to be sidetracked.
He however states that the Head of State should keep it in mind that Zambia is still a democracy where dissenting voices are part and parcel of the political system.
The ZED president states that President Lungu should in this case allow people to air their views on how he is leading the nation without fear of any repercussions.
He adds that President Lungu should further concentrate on strengthening the base of his party.
