——–First Lady, Esther Lungu, yesterday arrived in Mbala in Northern Province for an official visit.
Mrs Lungu, who is accompanied to Northern Province by former First Lady, Vera-Chiluba and some minister’s spouses, was welcomed at Samora Marchel
Air-base in Mbala by Provincial Minister, Freedom Sikazwe and several government and PF officials.
Speaking when Mbala District Commissioner, Best Kabulembe, paid a courtesy call on her, Mrs Lungu said she was in Mbala to access the performance of women’s clubs in the area.
She said there was need to seriously look into the challenges facing women so that their lives could be improved.
Mrs Lungu said women empowerment was key to the development of the nation.
She said vices like Gender Based Violence (GBV), early marriages, HIV/AIDS and the problem of street children, could be solved if women were empowered.
The First Lady is scheduled to be in Mpulungu later today on a similar engagement.
