Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Head of women’s football Janet Bwalya says there is need to create awareness and modalities to attract sponsors to support women’s football in Zambia.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mrs Bwalya noted that sponsors are reluctant to sponsor women’s football due to the fact that they feel women’s football is not as popular as their male counterparts.
Mrs Bwalya has since called on the Government to sponsor the Junior and young She-polopolo when they manage to qualify to higher competitions so that they motivate other sponsors.
Meanwhile Mrs Bwalya said there is also need for football to start at grass root level especially on the girl-child, adding that schools should encourage football amongst the girls because it will help them develop in other fields of life.
She further said if women football is started at grass root level players will be easily identified from various schools and strengthen leagues that would be made.
