THE Patriotic Front (PF) and the MMD are still consulting on their proposed merger.
And MMD president, Nevers Mumba said party officials have not yet met with PF members and that an appropriate statement will be made at the right time.
PF secretary general, Davis Chama said in an interview that the ruling party believes that consultations will be beneficial between the two parties.
“Discussions are under way for a possible merger. We will inform everyone once consultations are complete,” Mr Chama said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chama said that the PF is awaiting for a reply from PF Kasama member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwaba, who was written to, to exculpate himself.
He said Mr Mwamba was given an exculpatory letter on February 15 and that the period required for him to give a reply has elapsed.
Mr Chama, however, said the PF will give Mr Mwamba more time, and then refer the matter to the disciplinary committee which is chaired by Minister of Justice Ngosa Simbyakula.
He said if Mr Mwamba decided to remain quiet after being summoned to the disciplinary committee, he will be referred to the PF central committee for further action.
Mr Chama said that the PF believes in democracy, hence their decision to give erring members enough time to exculpate themselves.
