The red and white glamour giants yesterday left the country by road for South Africa where they are expected to connect a flight to Lusaka, Zambia. Swallows will play against Zambia’s double champions Zesco tomorrow at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The Swallows travelling delegation went to Ludzidzini yesterday to bid the country’s authorities farewell.
His Majesty, an avid soccer fan, speaking through Ludzidzini Governor TV Mtetwa, predicted that the Mbabane giants will win the return leg 5-1.
“You showed strength and character when you played to a 1-1 draw with them at home. This time you will win 5-1.
You have done well coming here to get blessings from God and the country’s ancestors. Those who say there are no ancestors and do not believe in them, let them be because it is their own beliefs.
“We trust that our ancestors and God will be with you during this war because in all honesty this is war. You resemble an army that was once commissioned by His Majesty King Sobhuza way back in 1939. Some of us were present and we saw it happen,” he said.
The team’s players, led by inspirational skipper Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze, introduced themselves to the acting governor.
Also present during the function were members of the Ludzidzini Libandla, Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, acting Director of Sports Mabuyengilandi Zeeman, National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu and his PLS counterpart John Mazibuko among others. The Mbabane giants were led by General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane and acting CEO Sibusiso Manana. Swallows rescued the first leg encounter with a late equaliser scored by lanky attacker Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst.
