An elderly woman of Sinazongwe
district in the Southern province has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to the roof-rafters of her house.
Confirming the development to ZANIS in Choma , Provincial Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda named the deceased as 80-year-old Sellina Sibembi of Siachilimbwe village in Chief Mweemba’s area.
Ms Chikwanda said the incident occurred between 19:00 hours and 06:00 hours on Sunday, February 22.
She explained that Ms Sibembi allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to the rafters inside her house using a rope.
Ms Chikwanda said that the brother to the deceased Alfred Sikalala also of Siachilimbwe village reported the matter to Sinazongwe Police station.
She said the deceased was found with a deep mark on her neck as a result of the rope she allegedly used to hang herself with.
Ms Chikwanda, however, said family members suspect foul play alleging that a man of the same area whose identity has been withheld could have hanged the woman in her house.
