Defence personnel at 48 Marine Unit in Kawambwa urged to be loyal to govt
Kawambwa, February 19, ZANIS —Soldiers at 48 Marine Unit in Kawambwa district in Luapula Province have been called upon to be loyal to the government of the day.
Commanding Officer at the unit Augustine Chirwa made the call in Kawambwa during the International Military Sports Council (CIMS) activities held at Kala Marine Barracks yesterday.
Lieutenant Colonel Chirwa said the soldiers should always be non-partisan and support the government of the day.
He however said sport is important in the military context because
it brings the officers together and keeps them fit.
Colonel Chirwa said CIMS is also an important event as its ultimate goal is to contribute to the world peace of uniting armed forces through sports.
He added that the motto under which his officers operate is ”Friendship through Sports.”
Meanwhile, Colonel Chirwa has thanked the command for the support
rendered to the marine officers from the time they were sent to Kala barracks.
The sports disciplines included football, volleyball and cross country covering a 6.2 km stretch.
During the CISM day Colonel Chirwa promoted six officers that came
first in the three sports disciplines.
