Suspected ‘poacher ‘shot dead in Kitwe

 

Ndola, February 17, 2015 ZANIS—An unidentified man has been shot dead by game guards after being suspected of being a poacher at Geystone farm in Kitwe.

 

 

Copperbelt Commissioner of Police, Joyce Kasosa confirmed the incidence to ZANIS in an interview in Ndola yesterday.

 

 

“We have a shooting incident which occurred on the 16th of February around 00:01 hours in Kitwe‘s Greystone Ranch farm in Kitwe’s,” she explained.

 

 

Ms. Kasosa disclosed that the owner of the farm, who has been identified as Michael Fisher, aged 65, a British National, reported to police that his game guards had shot dead an unidentified man who was suspected to be poaching animals in his game park.

 

 

“We visited the scene and found the body of the unidentified male believed to be a poacher aged between 50-55 , with 7 bullet wounds on the chest.

 

 

After searching in his pockets, three live bullets of a shot gun and a head lamp on the head with its battery and a knife were found on him,” she explained.

 

 

Miss Kasosa added that the victim who was in a green Zambian Police combat top is suspected to have been with a friend, who escaped with a firearm after the deceased was shot.

 

 

“The victim’s body is currently in Kitwe mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem,” Ms. Kasosa noted.
