Mwense demands Child Development department
Mwense, February 16th, 2015, ZANIS —— Some stakeholders in Mwense District have bemoaned lack of child development department in the area.
The concerned parties have noted that despite the formation of Gender and child development ministry, there has been no representation at the district level.
They have for this reason appealed to the Gender and Child Development ministry to quickly look
into the issue so that issues affecting children in the district are addressed amicably.
ZANIS reports that this was said during a joint multi sectorial district planning and child protection committee meeting held at Grand Palm Lodge in Mwense District today.
Speaking earlier, provincial gender and child development coordinator Timothy Mwate explained that his department was undergoing a number of challenges to effectively coordinate and monitor the implementation of gender and child development policies and programmes in the district.
Mr. Mwate cited low staffing levels at provincial level, lack of district officers, lack of transport and inadequate funding for programmes among others.
He was however quick to mention that government is considering employing more staff at provincial and district levels in order to address the challenges.
Meanwhile, Acting district commissioner Benson Matipa acknowledged that some government ministries such as gender were not present in the district.
