Police gun down notorious Mafinga criminal
Mafinga, February 14, 2015, ZANIS…POLICE in Mafinga District of Muchinga Province have gunned down a dangerous criminal facing a series of criminal charges who escaped from lawful custody this week.
The suspect escaped in mysterious circumstances at night while in handcuffs in police cells at Mafinga police station on Monday this week.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka has confirmed the gunning down of the wanted notorious armed robber in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.
Mr. Daka identified the escapee who was shot dead last night as Dickson Singogo of Mafinga District in Chief Mwenichifungwe chiefdom.
Mr. Daka explained that Singongo was shot dead when he attempted to escape from lawful custody for the second time after he was apprehended by the police.
The police chief explained that Singogo was facing one count of aggravated robbery and was due to appear before magistrate John Phiri in a circuit court on Tuesday when it was discovered that he had escaped from the police cells.
Mr. Daka said the suspect was also wanted in Malawi for stealing three fire arms including one rifle from the Malawian police.
The escapee was arrested two weeks ago in Mafinga District after allegedly staging a robbery while armed with a gun.
Police in Muchinga and Eastern province had mobilized officers to hunt down Singongo.
