Seven Asylum seekers nabbed in Isoka
Isoka February 12, 2015,ZANIS…Seven asylum seekers of the same family have been intercepted by Zambia’s immigration department In Isoka District of Muchinga province.
Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati shinka has confirmed the development to ZANIS in in Isoka in a telephone interview today.
Mr Shinka said the asylum seekers included children below 16 years adding that the Immigration officers intercepted the asylum seekers on Monday at Isoka check point and had to take them to a holding cell pending screening procedure that included the Ebola screening .
The asylum seekers have been identified as Ackson Wamangu 27 ,Basel Wamangu 25, Serge Wamangu20,Divia Wamangu 13,Grace Wamangu 12 and Jean Wamangu 12 all were on transits to neighboring Zimbabwe.
He said the asylum seekers are believed to have come from Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo and were going to a refugee camp in Zimbabwe were their elders sister is said to be.
Mr Shinka further revealed that currently the asylum seeker have been transferred to Chinsali regional office as they are undergoing screening before United Nations refugee could make a final decision on them.
Several prohibited immigrants enter Zambia through the porous Nakonde border post en-route to South Africa and other countries but are mainly arrested at Isoka District.
