USAID pledges support to Zambia
Mongu, Feb 11, 2015, ZANIS — United States Agency International Development (USAID) Mission Director Dr. Susan Brems says her organisation will continue rendering support to the country’s various development programmes.
Dr. Brems says one of the ways her organisation was ready to support government was through the education sector.
She said it was in the education sector that any country’s development can be achieved.
She was speaking when her organisation in conjunction with Finance and ZANACO Banks today donated learning materials worth K 240 thousand under the Read to Succeed project to Mongu Primary School in Mongu district of Western Province.
Among the materials donated included Lozi language books, markers, dictionaries, Compact disc (CDs) roms that contained all the teaching materials and the Teacher’s Guides.
The handover ceremony of the materials was attended by government officials, non-governmental organization and representatives of the supporting partners.
And ZANACO Bank Head of Co-operate affairs Joy Sata said that Read to Succeed project helps in developing pupil’s minds as well as having a community that is successful.
Meanwhile, Western Province Education Officer Loveness Mubisi says the donation will transform pupils at the school to become good learners.
Miss. Mubisi further disclosed that Mongu District has recorded high levels of pupil’s absenteeism making it the second highest at national level a situation which she said might improve through such donations.
She has since urged members of the community and teachers to be accountable and utilize the donated materials for the goodness of their children.
