Police post construction delays irk residents

Ndola, February 10, 2015, ZANIS – Residents of Ndola’s Dag Hammarskjöld area have expressed concern over the delayed works by the contractor building a police post and clinic in the area.

The residents told ZANIS in an interview in Ndola today that the police post had taken long to be completed adding that civil and criminal activities are sky rocketing in the area.

One of the residents Rodgers Musumba said government should do something to ensure the contractors awarded  to construct the police post and a clinic complete works soon as there are a lot of criminal  activities happening in the area.

“We are appealing to our listening government to help us bring the contractor assigned to do this job to come and complete what they had started. There is a lot of unruly behavior here in Dag (Dag Hammarskjöld area), people fight each other, they use offensive weapons freely because we don’t have police officers here,” Mr Musamba narrated.

He said that the only police officers in the area are the two officers who are sent to look after the Dag Hammarskjöld memorial site on daily patrols.

Another resident Mathews Makoti said it was worrying to see expectant mothers covering long distances to access medical services at Twapia clinic which is the nearest clinic.

“We need both the police post and the clinic to be completed soon as this would help bring security and health services at the door step unlike the situation at hand,” he said.

Mr. Makoti added that the two officers patrolling the Dag Hammarskjöld memorial site are not enough to bring sanity to the whole area.
