Village banking empowers 43 Kabompo beneficiaries
Kabompo, Feb 3, 2015, ZANIS–Government through the Ministry of Community
Development Mother and Child Health has empowered 43 beneficiaries in
Kabompo district with soft loans amounting to K33,100 through a women
village banking programme.

The 43 beneficiaries comprising seven men and 36 women received the
empowerment over the weekend in Kabompo’s Chikonkwelo area.

Speaking during the presentation of the money, Kabompo District
Commissioner Jackson Makupa implored all the beneficiaries to engage
in productive activities.

Mr Makupa reminded the beneficiaries that the loans they had received
were a revolving fund that has to be paid back.

Speaking at the same occasion, Kabompo district community development
officer, Moffat Ng’uni also urged all the beneficiaries to consider
putting the money into profit making businesses which will enable them
pay back the loans within the stipulated period.

Meanwhile,  Kabompo district women village banking chairperson,
Gregory Musonda urged all the beneficiaries to work hard and ensure that
they pay back the loans while at the same time make some savings to
eradicate poverty.

He said the programme is driven by the government meant to
uplift the living standards of vulnerable women in communities and
called on all vulnerable women to access the loans and better
their lives.

Chikonkwelo community women village banking chairperson Precious
Kalwiji assured government that all the beneficiaries will put the
money to good use and pay back within 25 weeks.

Ms Kalwiji however appealed to government to consider connecting the
area to mobile communication network saying doing business without
communication facilities may be difficult.
