Counting of votes in Lufwanyama district was progressing well by 23:00 hours last night with UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema polling 3, 432 votes from the 54 polling stations that had been counted out of 55.
ZANIS reports that District Election Officer Henry Chawah announced that 6,109 ballot papers had been counted from the 54 polling stations where Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Edgar Lungu had polled 2, 354 votes.
Mr Chawah said 83 ballot papers had been rejected while the total number of registered voters in the district is 33,608.
UNIP candidate Tilyenji Kaunda got 41 votes,FDD’s Edith Nawakwi 30,Heritage Party’s Godfrey Miyanda 37 and Green Party’s Peter Sinkamba polled 3.
Mr Chawah announced that Eric Chanda of the 4th Revolution Party scored 44 votes ,National Restoration Party (NAREP) candidate Elias Chipimo had 31, Danny Pule of the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) 8 while MMD candidate Nevers Mumba got 42 votes and Forum for Democratic Alternatives (FDA) candidate Ludwig Sondashi polled 4 votes.
Mr. Chawah stated that the results for the remaining polling station that will add up the final votes for each candidate in the district will be announced this morning.
He attributed the delay to count the votes from the remaining polling station to the bad terrain that has characterised the roads due to the rains.
And Mr. Chawah also noted that the atmosphere in the district still remained calm and peaceful.
