Voting yet to commence on Namu, Lumbe
Senanga, Jan 21/15, ZANIS—Voting at Namu and Lumbe polling stations in Senanga district of Western province has not started.
But Senanga Constituency returning officer, Stephen Siamatimba, has confirmed that measures are being put in place to ensure that voting takes place today.
Mr Siamatimba said a boat, a vehicle and a motor cycle have been released to help with the transportation of polling staff and election materials respectively.
He added that the Electoral Commission of Zambia is also looking into the matter so that people exercise their right to vote and choose their preferred candidate to take over from the late President, Michael Sata, who died last year in a London hospital.
Mr Siamatimba further disclosed that the crew that has been sent will arrive at Maata around 14:00hrs, adding that as soon as the crew manages to cross over then voting will start in the afternoon and end at night.
Namu and Lumbe polling stations are among the 24 polling stations in the country where voting could not take place.
Namu has a total number of 150 registered voters while Lumbe has a total number of 320 voters.
Voting, which started around 06:00 hrs and was supposed to end at 18:00 hrs yesterday has been extended to today in some parts of the country due to poor road network and bad weather in some cases.
