Voting in the presidential election has started in Kasama
At Kasama’s Chifwani Basic School, our staffer Nzala Hangubo reports that by 06:20 twenty people had cast their votes.
Chifwani with two voting streams has over 800 registered voters.
And at ZANIS polling station our staffer Abigail Musonda reports that twenty one people had cast their votes by 06:25 hours.
While at Lukashya polling station Nkweto Mumba reports that ten people had cast their vote by 06:15 hours.
And at Mubanga Chipoya, Patrick Kabwe reports that 35 people had cast their votes by 06:30 hours.
Kasama District has 93,699 registered voters.Polling stations opened at 06:00 hours and will close at 18:00.
Counting of votes will begin shortly afterwards with results expected to be announced within 48 hours.
Zambia are voting today, Tuesday, 20th January 2015 to elect a new republican president following the demise of 5th republican president Michael Chilufya Sata.
according to the Zambian Constitution, a presidential election should be held within 90 days after the death of the incumbent.
Eleven contenders are jostling for the republican presidency and they include: FDD’s Edith Nawakwi, Nevers Sekwila Mumba of the MMD, PF President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema and NAREP president Elias Chipimo Junior.
Others are UNIP’s Leader Tilyenji Kaunda, Forum for Democratic Alternatives leader Ludwig Sondashi, Heritage Party leader Godfrey Miyanda, Peter Sinkamba of the Green Party, Forth Revolution Party President Erick Chanda and Christian Democratic Party’s Dan Pule.
