Transport hitch delays polling station opening

Lukulu, January 20, 2015, ZANIS — Voting for Zambia’s Sixth Republican President has started in Lukulu district with most polling stations opening at 06:00 hours except for one.

Lukulu District Electoral Officer Alfred Mungalu said by 11:00 hours this morning poll staff for Mutungi polling station in Likapai ward had not been taken to the center.

Mr. Mungalu attributed the delay to inadequate transport as the district was sharing the only means of transport with Mitete.

Meanwhile, ZANIS reports that by 09: 00 hours, at the Boma polling station at Civic center about 168 people had cast their votes out of 940 registered voters while about 200 out of 1,249 registered voters had voted at Lubosi Primary School by 09:30 hours.

A check at Ngweshi polling station which has 1,182 registered voters, about 228 had cast their votes by 10:30 hours whereas 211 out of 980 registered voters had voted at Santa Maria polling station by mid morning.
