Polling opens on good note in Solwezi
Solwezi, January 20, 2015, ZANIS…Some polling stations in Solwezi district recorded a good voter turnout this morning with voters forming long queues when doors opened at 06.00 hours and a steady decrease as the day progressed.
A check by ZANIS at Kyawama polling station found an impressive voter turnout.
Presiding officer Kayawe Malasha said the polling station has eight streams and in each there are 877 voters while the total number of registered voters is 7,892.
By 10:00hrs more than 2,000 people had cast their votes at Kyawama polling station.
Mr. Malasha said voting was going on smoothly and incident free.
And at Tunvwang’anayi school polling station which has a total number of 7,735 registered voters recorded 1,480 people who had cast their votes by mid-morning.
Voting in both polling stations was incident free,fair and peaceful.
Solwezi district has three constituencies namely Solwezi East, Solwezi West, and Solwezi Central with a total of 98 polling stations and 106,626 registered voters.
Other polling stations in Solwezi rural are reported to have started on a low a flow of voters.
Meanwhile, some civil servants complained that delayed January salaries had disenfranchised them since they were not able to travel to places where they had registe6red before moving to Solwezi.
