The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Mitete district says it has faced challenges in transporting ballot papers and poll staff to their respective polling stations.
Meanwhile, a Zambia Police Service speed boat in Lukulu district which was carrying ballot papers and poll staff yesterday hit into a shape corner in the Zambezi river on its way to Kashizhi ward in Lukulu West Constituency.
ZANIS reports that Mitete District Electoral Officer Robby Chitambo says by 08:00 hours today the District had only dispatched electoral materials and poll staff to 26 out of the 40 polling stations in Lukulu West constituency.
Mr Chitambo said the remaining 14 polling stations will receive their election materials and poll staff anytime this morning saying ECZ will extend hours of voting to those that will open the polling stations late.
The DEO said this is because some places cannot be reached either by road or water transport due to the bad terrain saying the only mode of transport is by air.
Mr Chitambo said currently there is only one Zambia Air Force chopper which arrived yesterday around 18 : 00 hours that will transport the remaining election materials and poll staff in the remaining polling stations.
He has since called on stakeholders and all political party officials in Lukulu West Constituency to accept the situation.
Meanwhile, a speed boat belonging to the Zambia Police in Lukulu district which was carrying ballot papers and poll staff hit into a shape corner in the zambezi river on its way to Kashizhi ward in Lukulu West Constituency.
Mitete District Electoral Officer Robby Chitambo said the incident happened at Chiyaka area around 18: 20 hours but that no casualties were recorded .
He said all the electoral materials were safe except for personal luggage for poll staff which was carried away by water.
Lukulu West Constituency which is located in Mitete district has a total number of 11, 882 registered voters and 40 polling stations.
