Former President Rupiah Banda is hopeful
that the post-election unity exhibited between the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and the opposition MMD would bring continued peace even after tomorrow’s Presidential polls.

Speaking when he addressed a rally to drum up support for PF President
Edgar Lungu in Chipata’s Chiparamba area yesterday, Mr Banda said the MMD’s
support for the ruling party in the election has the potential to
bring unity among political parties.

He said there is need for continued peace saying Zambia was the only
country in the Southern African region which has enjoyed peace in the last 50
years.

The former head of stressed the need for all parties to accept the
results of tomorrow’s elections saying whoever loses should accept to move on.

He said losing parties should be able to accept as he did when he lost
the Presidential election in 2011.

Mr Banda stated that he recommended the PF candidate for the highest office in
the land because he has the experience as he has served in various
portfolios among them as Acting President, Justice and Defence Minister.

He said that Mr Lungu proved to be a good leader who is accommodative
as he is a good listener.

The former Head of State however said that it was up to the voters to
decide on who should take over the Presidency but stressed the need for
continued peace and unity.
