15 year old Chipata girl in court for infanticide

Chipata, January 16, 2015, ZANIS —-  A 15 year old girl of Magazine
compound in Chipata district in Eastern province has appeared in the
Chipata Magistrate for attempted murder contrary section 215 cap 87 of
the laws of Zambia.

Appearing before Magistrate Fred Munsaka was the juvenile who
allegedly dumped the newly baby girl in the pit latrine after giving
birth on 13th January 2015.

Magistrate Munsaka disclosed that the Juvenile was merely appearing
for the explaining of the charge as the Magistrate court had no
jurisdiction to preside over such matters.

He however, said the accused will only be appearing for mention whilst
waiting for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecution
(DPP).

Magistrate Munsaka has since granted the juvenile K5000 bail in her
own recognisance with two reliable sureties of fixed aboard.

He has set January 30th 2015 as date for another mention.

The baby who survived the incident and was admitted to Chipata General Hospital.
