——————Government has released K100 million to Muchinga Province to pay farmers who sold their maize to the Food reserve Agency-FRA last marketing season.
Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Mwansa Kapeya has confirmed the development to ZANIS today.
Mr Kapeya said that out of the K100 million released for Muchinga Province, K40 million will go towards paying all the farmers in Mpika district.
Mr. Kapeya has since called on all farmers to visit the banks by Monday next week adding that the inconvenience is due to the Christmas Holiday that has overlapped into Friday as a public holiday.
He added that government attachs importance towards alleviating poverty at household level.
He said it is government’s wish that next year the country should maintain its bumper harvest.
Mr. Kapeya further said that the Patriotic Front (PF) Government will ensure that the price of mealie meal is reduced and all people have enough money to use at household level.
Farmers in Mpika district have been frequenting government offices pushing for their funds so that they can buy farm inputs.
