Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chileshe Mulenga, has regretted that there are no activities towards cleaning districts in the region.
Dr. Mulenga said street vending had continued in most districts and
contributed to making the environment dirty.
He was speaking in a speech read for him by Eastern Province Assistant
Secretary, Beenzu Chikuba, when she officiated at the regional
Epidemic Preparedness, Prevention, Control and Management meeting held
in Chipata today.
Dr. Mulenga said it was the duty of local authorities to spearhead
issues such as cleanliness in districts, under the Public Health Act of the
laws of Zambia.
‘’ As enshrine under the Public Health Act chapter 295 of the laws of
Zambia, I want to remind local authorities that it is your duty to
spearhead issues of cleanliness in the districts,’’ he said.
Dr. Mulenga said cleanliness should be promoted at all levels in the
districts on a continuous basis and warned that no excuses will be
tolerated.
He also noted that the province recorded 439 cases of dog bites with
four deaths of suspected rabid cases.
Dr. Mulenga directed the Veterinary department and all districts to
take up the issue of rabies in the province seriously.
