Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Governor Michael Gondwe has praised Habitat for Humanity for its commitment to provide decent shelter to the vulnerable people in society.

Dr. Gondwe has since called on other corporate institutions and well-meaning individuals to partner with Habitat for Humanity in the noble agenda of providing shelter to less privileged people in the country.

The BoZ Governor said this when he handed over two houses to two families of Kamanga Compound in Lusaka.

The construction of the houses was financed by the Central Bank.

He further commended Habitat for Humanity for the commitment of completing the construction of the houses successfully.

Dr. Gondwe said the impact of the work which Habitat for Humanity does in communities across the country must be applauded by all well-meaning Zambians.

He also lauded Bank of Zambia staff for taking time to assist in the construction of the two houses and urged them to continue with the spirit of togetherness and lending a helping hand to the needy people in society.

The Central Bank, through its corporate social responsibility programme and to commemorate 50 years of existence, collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to assist the vulnerable people in society by financing the construction of two houses in Kamanga Compound.

Speaking earlier, Habitat for Humanity Programmes Manager Victor Sitali said his organisation has so far built over 2, 800 houses for vulnerable people in society and intends to construct 200 houses in the next 12 months.

Mr. Sitali thanked the Bank of Zambia for the support rendered to his organisation which he said has greatly helped in improving the livelihood of disadvantaged people in communities across the country.

And the beneficiaries have asked the two institutions not to tire in their endeavour to better the living conditions of vulnerable people in society as their intervention has immensely helped in lessening their hardships.

One of the beneficiaries, Marvis Malesu said she will forever remain grateful to BoZ and Habitat for Humanity for building her a brick house saying she has spent all her life living in pole and mud houses.
