—The Chitambo District Elections Officer has urged all the Voter Education Facilitators (VEFs) employed in the district to be non – partisan, objective, transparent and express openness in their teachings so that people participate meaningfully in elections.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS during the deployment and send off of the VEFs on yesterday, Titus Goma said he expects the facilitators to contribute to free and fair elections and increase civic awareness among the electorates.
“I expect the VEFs to be open and represent the district and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in a good manner and make sure that they disseminate good and correct information to the populous,” he said
Mr Goma, who is also Chitambo District Council Secretary, said he would like the voter election facilitators to treasure their jobs and do the very best in informing the public on their democratic rights, election procedures and electoral issues.
Seven Voter Education Facilitators were chosen and deployed in the seven wards of the district after a two-day-training workshop.
One of the Voter Educators, Simakando Silombwa, who has been sent to educate the residents of Chipundu Ward, expressed happiness at having the job and promised to do his very best, adding that the ECZ will receive the best out of him.
“I am well equipped for this job and I have been well trained, all the skills are in me and I promise to do the very best and ECZ will receive the best out of me,” he assured.
Mr Silombwa urged his fellow voter educators in the country to do the correct job so that they uplift the standards of the country and ensure that the electorates are well informed.
