WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight silver champion Catherine Phiri will return to the ring in March to challenge for the main title.
Catherine, 24, is likely to face champion Yazmin ‘Rusita’ Rivas of Mexico.
Rivas, 26, has a record of 43 fights with 31 wins and eight losses.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) director of operations Chris Malunga said at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that they will officially bid for the main title during the WBC congress slated for Las Vegas this weekend.
Malunga, who was expected to leave for the United States of America yesterday, expressed confidence that their bid would be successful.
“We have lined up three tournaments in March, July and December. The March tournament will be the WBC title fight and this is why I will be going for the congress to challenge for the main title,” he said.
And Catherine said she is looking forward to challenging for the main title.
“It has always been my dream to fight for the main WBC title and I am looking forward to the fight,” she said.
Catherine last month defended her WBC silver bantamweight title after she knocked out Bukiwe Nonina of South Africa.
