Four arrested for contravening the Fisheries Act
Nchelenge, November 9, ZANIS… Four people among them two women and two bus conductors have been arrested in Nchelenge District for contravening the Fisheries Act, Cap 200 of 2011.
Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Malcom Mulenga said the quartet was arrested by a combined patrol team of fisheries and police officers on Friday around 19: 00 hours.
Mr. Mulenga said the culprits were cornered along the Chiengi – Nchelenge road after the patrol team searched the Kitwe bound DAF bus registration number AAK 461.
According to a statement released to ZANIS today, Commissioner Mulenga said Steward Shimwense 24 and Samson Lungu 31 both conductors of the DAF bus were arrested for failure to account for 4 by 90 kilo grams bags of dry fish.
He said Shimwense and Lungu are residents of house number 6970 and 7030/1 respectively in Kitwe’s Chimwemwe compound.
He identified the female culprits as Jessy Musonda 45 and her 28 year old counterpart Priscilla Chipasha who were found with one big basket of dry fish each.
He disclosed that Chipasha resides at Shombe farms in Kitwe while Musonda is a subject of village headman Kasongole in Chief Mukupa Katandula in Kaputa District of the Northern Province.
The Luapula Provincial Police Chief said the quartet has been charged with the offence of possession of the fish during the fish ban.
He said all the culprits are in detention at the Nchelenge Police Station and scheduled to appear in the Nchelenge magistrate court today.
