ECZ money stolen in Chipata
Chipata, December 9, 2014, ZANIS….. More than K217, 000 money belonging to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has allegedly been stolen in Chipata district in Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Assistant Commissioner of police Patrick Bili disclosed that the money was allegedly stolen yesterday at the great east mall around 11:30 hours.
Speaking in an interview in Chipata today, Mr. Bili who is also Chipata District Officer in-charge explained that the money meant to pay people undergoing an ECZ workshop was stolen from unregistered BMW at a shopping mall.
He stated that the money was withdrawn by three cashiers namely Bernard Miti, Thoka Chikango and Sylvia Bwalya all from the Chipata Municipal council.
Mr Bili added that it alleged that after withdrawing the said money, the three officials decided to go in to spur supermarket and left the car unguarded.
Mr. Bili said upon returning to the vehicle the three officers discovered that the front left window was smashed and the money was not there.
He explained that it was at this point that the matter was reported to the police and two officers Bernard Miti, and Thoka Chikango have since been arrested while Sylvia Bwalya is admitted to Chipata General Hospital as she collapsed after discovering that the money was stolen.
