ONE person has died while four others sustained injuries when the bus they were travelling in was involved in a road traffic accident at Kacholola area along the Great East Road in Nyimba District in Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the accident which happened about 100 kilometres from Nyimba.
The driver Patrick Phiri, 52, who was driving a Chipata bound Kapena bus died on the spot.
The four passengers that sustained injuries include 46-year old Aznnie Zimba of Chadiza, Enjiwe Phiri, 26, of Chipata, Elizabeth Mbewe also of Chipata and Edith Njobvu of Lusaka.
The accident happened when the Kapena bus hit into a freight liner truck that was in front of the bus.
The bus driver did not see that there was a stationery truck in front because of dust on the road and detours that are being worked on.
“The driver failed to avoid hitting into the truck and eventually he died on the spot,”she said.
Ms Chipalila said the body of the driver was taken to Nyimba District Hospital mortuary where the other two injured passengers were also treated.
