Patriotic Front Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu has called on the church to pray for politicians both in the ruling and opposition parties for peaceful campaigns.
Speaking during a Church service at Cathedral of the Assumption of our Lady Catholic Church in Mansa this morning, Mr. Lungu says it is there duty of the Church to pray for politicians as they compete to lead the nation.
Mr. Lungu has urged the church not to feel shy to advise politicians but that they should always do that for the sole purpose of promoting peace in the country.
He has also appealed to the church to pray for peaceful elections.
The PF Presidential candidate is scheduled to address a rally in Mansa District this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lungu says there is need for mining companies in the country to begin to give local contractors and suppliers bigger opportunities than rely upon foreign suppliers.
Mr. Lungu says foreign contractors and suppliers should be encouraged to partner with local firms and individuals.
Mr. Lungu says local companies and individuals must get involved in the ownership of mines saying people should not just be workers, but also mine owners.
He says once elected as Republican President he will ensure that mine houses negotiate with government before any retrenchment of workers is done.
