Twatasha disabled organization in Kafue hailed
Kafue, December 3 2014,ZANIS —- Kafue district Commissioner Grace Ngulube has commended Twatasha disabled organization in Kafue district for supplementing government’s efforts in looking into the welfare of the persons with disabilities in the district.
Ms Ngulube added that Twashuka Disabled organization has offered support to 350 disabled persons in education services and physiotherapy, and 50 wheel chairs to disabled persons in the district.
ZANIS reports that the district commissioner said this in a speech read on her behalf by the district education board secretary, Vincent Zyambo, during the commemoration of the international day of persons with disability in Kafue district, today.
Ms Ngulube added that the observance of the day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to create an inclusive and accessible society that will benefit the communities regardless of their abilities.
She emphasized the need for the communities and other stakeholders to embrace persons with disabilities to create an inclusive and accessible society .
Meanwhile the district commissioner revealed that government , through the department of community development mother and child health will carry out a national survey to ascertain the prevalence and disability .
Ms Ngulube further said that the survey will also help to ensure that issues affecting persons with disability are programmed.
Speaking earlier, Twatasha Disabled organization vice board chairperson, Clement Muntanga bemoaned lack of disabled user friendly facilities and structures in the district .
Mr. Muntanga noted that most of the disabled children do not go beyond grade 9 due to lack of special units in most secondary schools.
He has since appealed to government and other stakeholders to improve the advancement and welfare of the persons with disabilities in the country and Kafue district in particular.
