The Zambia Public Relations Association (ZAPRA) has commended Chief Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Joseph Katema, for strongly condemning the recent reported harassment of ZNBC journalists by some senior government and Patriotic Front (PF) officials.

ZAPRA has also saluted the ZNBC management board for condemning in strong terms the
behaviour of some Government and PF officials who stormed the ZNBC newsroom and threatened the journalists there.

This is contained in a press statement issued to ZANIS in Livingstone today by ZAPRA President, Davies Mupenda.

Mr Mupenda said the ZNBC board did a good thing for coming out strongly in support of the corporation’s employees, adding that ZNBC is a public broadcaster which is supposed to serve the public rather than sectional interests.

He called upon the PF Government to ensure that professionalism in the public media, which existed during President Michael Sata’s reign, is sustained even during this period of transition.

Mr Mupenda added that his Association further supports the corporation’s call on all political parties to ensure party spokespersons issue well prepared and signed statements that will promote unity and peace in the country.

He said it is for this reason that ZAPRA reiterates its earlier call on political parties to engage qualified Public Relations practitioners who can guide leaders of various political parties in the country in their communications strategies and media engagements.
