— Katete Men and women of God have called upon Zambians to emulate Jesus Christ as the country commemorates this year’s world AIDS day.
Delivering a sermon yesterday during the World AIDS day candle lighting memorial service Reverend Wilson Ngwenya of Pentecostal Assemblies of God of Burning Bush Assembly said people should refrain from stigmatizing those infected with HID/AIDS.
Reverend Ngwenya in his message quoted that book of John 8:7-11 and said Zambians should rise to the challenge and stop stigma.
He said the church does not support promiscuity but encourages people to live a Godly life as Jesus encouraged a righteous way of living.
He noted that Jesus never condemned anyone hence people should support one another in living a positive life.
Meanwhile Katete District Commissioner Colonel Peter Kunda Kaisa has urged people to stop stigma as it possess a great hindrance to treatment.
The District Commissioner said government is doing everything possible together with the church in addressing the impact that HIV/AIDS has posed on families.
Colonel Kaisa said the fight against stigma should not be left to government and the church alone but should be taken up by all Zambians.
He acknowledged that through the creation of orphanages and other forms of help rendered by non-governmental organizations the impact of HIV has lessened.
The Candle light memorial service which saw attendance from over ten churches in the district also attracted intercessory prayers.
Men and women of God took turns in praying for peace as the country goes for a presidential by-election.
The preachers emphasized in their prayers on the need for peaceful campaigns and an open mind to the voters so that they could elect a leader who will carry a good vision for Zambia.
They further prayed for a good rainfall, orphans and victims of Gender Based Violence.
This year’s world AIDS Day is being commemorated under a theme “Zambia at 50 towards zero stigma and discrimination”.
